Spencer had a pretty busy weekend. In our last update, Spencer was up to 5 lb. 9 oz. and when we went to see him on Friday evening, he had gone up to 5 lb. 11 oz. That’s not the only surprise we were greeted with. Upon entering the NICU, we were told Spencer had been moved! He was now in the progressive side. Then Saturday morning we had another surprise… no more feeding tube! Spencer was now on ad lib feeding, meaning he would still be given 60 mL every four hours for his feedings, but if he wanted more, he could have it. He could also eat less than the 60 mL, but not too often. It was so awesome to see his precious face without a tube and tape on it! Just look at these cheeks:

Last Friday, Joy’s mother and sister came to visit us. They were in town to help out with a baby shower put together by our friends and family. It was held at First Baptist Church here in Huntsville. We had a nacho bar from Salsarita’s (one of my and Joy’s favorite places), and bundt cake from “Nothing Bundt Cakes.”

The shower invite featured a tricycle pulling a wagon full of books and the invite suggested bringing books to fill Spencer’s library. When we got to the shower, we saw this awesome setup. It was like the invite came to life!

A few weeks ago my sister asked us to pick out 20 or 30 of our favorite pictures of Spencer and send them to her. She then put together this awesome bike-themed photo collage of Spencer. Even the little clothespins are blue for our baby boy.

The rest of the pictures were hung around the room on little clotheslines along with some new outfits for Spencer.

We want to thank everyone that helped put together such an awesome baby shower. Thanks to all of our friends and family that came to support us and Spencer. Between the last two showers, it seems like we have enough clothes to last him through the first year! Joy’s sister Julie has been a whirling dervish of unpacking and organizing and as soon as Joy and her mom could get things laundered and un-boxed, they were neatly organized and tucked away. Spencer’s room is really filling up with all the necessities for when he comes home. We hope he’ll be home soon, but we’re still having a de-sat or brady here and there. Today he was up to 5 lb 14 oz. and Joy was able to try breast-feeding again, but he did de-sat a little on us this evening. Please keep Spencer in your prayers that he continues to grow and develop past these de-sats and bradys. His room, his library, and his family are ready for him to come on home!
