The Times, they’re a’changing!

Some of you may already know this, but today is my last day at The Huntsville Times. In fact, according to my Dashboard widget I’ve got 3 hours, 8 minutes, and 15 seconds left here, not that I’m counting. I put my two week notice in, um, weeks ago because I found another job. On Monday, I’ll be starting at Radiance Technology as a graphic designer.

I’d been looking for a new job for some time. After 10 years here at the paper (wow! 10 years?), I need more room for growth and a change of pace. At my new job, I’ll still be doing desktop publishing, but I’ll also get some valuable experience working in the Microsoft Windows environment and learning a few new programs like SharePoint.

I’m not sure if I’ll be getting a security clearance or anything fancy just yet, but I’ll probably be on a much more secured intranet with more limited access to the information superhighway, so my posts here will more than likely occur at night and on the weekends. I’ll keep my twitter log on the right sidebar so that I can always send quick thoughts and random messages during the day.

On a related note, I was also entertaining a job offer from Apple. I applied to the Apple store in Bridge Street back before Christmas and about the time I set up an interview with Radiance, I started getting calls and emails from Apple. It was kind of a tense week at one point, when I was interviewing at Apple, I got a job offer from Radiance the same day. The offer wouldn’t last long, so I had to act fast. I gave Apple a deadline to get an offer to me, but that came and went and so after some serious thought and consideration, I decided the Radiance job was a much better opportunity.

I’m looking forward to starting on Monday and getting right to work. Maybe once the Apple store opens in May (from what I’ve heard), I’ll be able to spend a lunch hour every now and then out there since I’ll be so close!
